Se não o fizessem, havia formas de aumentar o seu bem-estar: o comprador compraria mais maçãs, o vendedor venderia mais maçãs, porque estas unidades adicionais seriam compradas (vendidas) abaixo (acima) do real valor que os indivíduos lhe atribuem.
