The Secretary of State for the Environment said this Wednesday that green growth, as it is understood today, will be "very difficult" to achieve, but to have well-being and prosperity for all, within the limits of Planet Earth, is achievable as well as a circular economy.

“É obrigatório insistir nos objetivos estabelecidos pelo Pacto Ecológico Europeu. Ainda na semana passada a presidente Von der Leyen foi muito clara no seu discurso no Estado da União. Não há volta a dar e a União Europeia precisa de ir mais depressa e fazer melhor”, recordou a governante, reforçando a ideia de que 33% do instrumento de recuperação Next Generation EU será gasto nas metas do Green deal, um terço financiado através de obrigações verdes (green bonds).

O hidrogénio cinzento foi posto na gaveta durante o painel que debateu os desafios do uso deste elemento. A descarbonização da economia passa pelo green hydrogen e apenas desse interessa falar neste momento, segundo os oradores da “Portugal Smart Cities Summit”: as energéticas EDP e REN e a fabricante de autocarros CaetanoBus.
Ana Quelhas, director of Energy Planning at EDP, highlighted the competitiveness that green hydrogen can bring to national economic activity, listing those that should be priorities for use. "It is a very versatile energy vector", he stressed. Because? It can be used in industrial processes (heat production), mobility, electricity production and buildings with fuel cells, for example.
No entanto, a responsável da EDP alerta que o foco da utilização do hidrogénio – e para onde os apoios devem ser centralizados – são os processos industriais e os transportes pesados de larga distância, sobretudo os de mercadorias, tendo em conta que beneficiam mais deste tipo de energia, enquanto para outros há alterativas que geram maior eficiência.
Para o diretor de Estudos e Inovação Operacional da REN, o hidrogénio ganhou hoje uma escala e dimensão sem retorno. “É um elemento natural de integração de sistemas elétricos e de gás natural como nunca outro permitiu até à data”, assegurou Pedro Ávila, no mesmo evento.
