The Socialist Party (PS) wants to postpone the discussion on the proposed amendments to the law on financing political parties and electoral campaigns. Socialists consider that the legislative process is not a priority in the current pandemic context and say that the law in force has allowed to deal with "the problems of managing electoral campaigns and party finance". The Government party does not yet have a date for resuming the legislative process and does not commit itself to a timely review of next year's local elections.

“The issue is not, for us, a priority although we are always available to debate it, in terms of principles and legislative solutions”, says the national administration secretary of the PS, Luís Patrão, to the Jornal Económico (JE), about the debate schedule changes to party financing. The doubt regarding the current pertinence of the discussion was raised by the socialist deputy Jorge Lacão in the committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms, which this Wednesday approved an opinion on the bills presented by the PSD, BE, PCP, PAN, CDS -PP and Liberal Initiative.
