“TAP is bankrupt”, began by affirming the Social Democrat in an interview with RTP3, broadcast this evening.

“If it is bankrupt, the first thing you have to demand is a business and restructuring plan for TAP. That plan did not appear, but the Government happily says 'take a billion euros there'. And now we will all be waiting for the next invoice because there is no business plan yet, ”criticized Rui Rio.

Asked if he would drop the company if it were under his control, the PSD president admits: “I could leave. I could leave it ”, he explains, adding that the business plan is necessary to determine the company's future.

The Government has an estimated “maximum” amount of 1,2 billion euros to finance TAP through the Supplementary Budget. The value is, according to the Secretary of State for the Treasury, the worst predicted scenario. Without specifying, Álvaro Novo said that a “base scenario” of aid to TAP is foreseen and a second, more demanding one, in which a margin was added on the base scenario, which can face the current “uncertainty in the aviation sector”.

This afternoon, TAP announced that the company will join the progressive resumption of normal working hours, reducing working hours between 70% and 20% in August.

According to the statement released by CMVV, the decision comes under the scope of Extraordinary Support for Progressive Resumption, which provides for a mechanism to reduce working hours for all workers, with no provision for suspension of the employment contract.

“TAP's Board of Directors decided that, at TAP, the reduction of the normal working period will vary between 70% and 20%, with all TAP employees being individually informed about the modality that will be applied to them”, reads up in the released note.
