The governor of Banco de Portugal (BdP), Mário Centeno, chose his former Secretary of State for the Treasury, Álvaro Novo, as chief of staff. The former governor left the Government when Mário Centeno left and had returned to the position of technical adviser to the regulator, which he has exercised since 2001, but will now lead the institutional relations of the BdP with the Executive and Parliament.
Jornal Económico questioned the BdP, but until the publication of this article it was not possible to get an answer. However, the name of Álvaro Novo already appears, however, in the institution's organizational chart.
The Governor's support office “provides technical support” to Mário Centeno and this is where contacts with the Executive, the Assembly of the Republic and other institutions pass, with the current Governor choosing a man he trusts.
