For the leader of the PCP, it is more important to define the functions of the regulator who, in the opinion of Jerónimo de Sousa, cannot continue to be “a mere branch of the European Central Bank”. “This discussion is all the other way around, what was fundamental was to understand if we are going to have a Banco de Portugal that will establish sovereignty in its action or if we have a branch of the ECB (…) More than discussing the person or the profile, with no answer to this central issue we can well put a real artist there, who would always have to comply with the orders of the ECB ”, said Jerónimo de Sousa, questioned by journalists, after leaving an audience with the President of the Republic.
The leader of the PCP, Jerónimo de Sousa, also considered that it is necessary to “assess the situation” and “and go to the field to understand the outbreaks” of the outbreak in the greater Lisbon region, after meeting with the President of the Republic on the Supplementary Budget.
"There is a need to assess the situation, go to the field and understand the outbreaks, their development and simultaneously solve the problem of public transport", said Jerónimo de Sousa. “Taking into account the characteristics of many of those populations, in these five counties, it is essential”, he added.

Regarding the Supplementary Budget, Jerónimo de Sousa again mentioned that he believes it is “insufficient” and recalled the need to “safeguard the wages of workers who saw their wages cut”.
