After declarations by the Minister of Labor to the newspaper Expresso, where homes were devalued, the Liberal Initiative (IL) sent a question to Ana Mendes Godinho, but also to Marta Temido where she questions the Government about the Reguengo de Monsaraz home.

“Will the Government assume any political responsibility? Or, like other cases of glaring failures of the State (fires, Tancos or the case of the collars, just to name a few), will you try to make the matter fall by the wayside or try to end it with a scapegoat? ”, Asks the party? led by João Cotrim de Figueiredo.

In the document sent to the Government, IL asks for clarification “who failed with the elderly citizens who were in the care of the Home” and also seeks to know what “urgent procedures the Government has implemented to clarify these failures”.

"Was the ratio of nurses per resident being met, was there adequate medical follow-up and were the health authorities responsible for these situations?" Asked the Liberal Initiative.

Liberals considered that "the pattern of lack of explanation in matters related to the capacity of official entities to respond to problems resulting from the strategy to combat Covid is beginning to be worrying."

“In recent days, the information that has been made public about what happened at the Maria Inácia Vogado Perdigão Silva Foundation home (FMIVPS), in Reguengos de Monsaraz, adds reasons of great concern. The Order of Doctors survey points to serious flaws at the local level, at the level of regulatory institutions and at the level of lack of supervision ”, stressed the IL who also recalled that“ the succession of errors, omissions and generalized incompetence led to a total of 162 infected and cost the lives of 18 Portuguese ”.

On August 7, the Public Ministry (MP) launched an investigation into the outbreak of covid-19 in the home in Reguengos de Monsaraz, in the district of Évora, where 18 elderly people died, according to Lusa, who also informed that the home had been 80 users and 26 professionals were contaminated.

Regarding what happened in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Labor Minister Ana Mendes Godinho pointed out to Jornal Expresso that it does not make sense to talk about concrete cases of Covid-19 outbreaks in homes and about the situation in Reguengos de Monsaraz, where 18 people died. "In the case of Reguengos, the great difficulty was finding employees when many became ill," said the minister.

Ana Mendes Godinho's statements have aroused political reactions and both the CDS-PP and the PSD are already calling for the resignation of the Minister of Labor.
