Prime Minister António Costa tested negative for Covid-19, revealed a press release from the Head of Government's office this Monday, October 12th. Costa tested the new coronavirus, after Covid-19 was diagnosed by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor.

"The Prime Minister and all the members of the Government tested last night by the National Institute of Health Ricardo Jorge tested negative for Covid-19", reads the note from António Costa's office.

“During the morning [of this Monday] the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs [Augusto Santos Silva] and the Minister of Environment and Climate Action [João Matos Fernandes] will also be tested, who remain isolated until they know the results”, adds the statement.

Despite testing negative, the Planning Ministers, Nelson de Souza, and the Minister of Labor, Soledarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, “will be in confinement” as determined by the Directorate-General for Health, since they were seated beside Manuel Heitor at the last meeting of the council of ministers, held on Thursday, October 8.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, is infected with Covid-19. But according to a government note, the governor "has no symptoms and is in confinement at home".

"As a result, all members of the Government who participated in the meeting of the Council of Ministers last Thursday are being tested, even those who have not had close contact," said the Executive.

The Government was meeting on Thursday throughout the day, in a council of ministers and met again on Sunday, October 11, but electronically. This last meeting served to approve the State Budget proposal for 2021, which will be delivered today to the Assembly of the Republic.

On Wednesday, the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education was heard in parliament, but participated in the hearing via Skype, because in the previous weekend he had been in contact with a member of the University of Aveiro who tested positive for the infection with new coronavirus.
