The Secretary of State for Education, Susana Amador, guaranteed that there was no lack of information regarding the return to school, during a meeting of the Permanent Commission in the Assembly of the Republic, this Thursday, September 10th.
“Contrary to what was said, we planned and organized early, reinforced in a timely manner and communicated these main guidelines to the country at a press conference on July 3, and therefore there was no information deficit, lack of planning or organization”, assured Susana Amateur.
“We left for this academic year with an acquired experience because we reopened the third term classroom for the 10th and 12th year for the preschool and with residual cases of Covid-19 in a universe of 200 thousand students”, pointed out the secretary of State of Education.
António Costa's executive appears to be confident with his return to school and Susana Amador cites “the experience of reopening with national exams that took place with the utmost regularity without cases, without disturbances”, as a way of reinforcing that schools are prepared for a new academic year that will be “of great complexity”.
In turn, and for the PSD, which asked for the debate, “the good functioning of schools in the next academic year 2020/21” underlined that “just a few days from its reopening, the difficulties of schools are basically the same as a few months ago , the resources they had in March are not very different from those they have in September, despite the promises and announcements that the Government made for education and the word that the Prime Minister promised to honor ”.
“What the country expects and demands from government officials and political actors is that, despite circumstances and needs, all levels of confidence and tranquility and the necessary conditions are guaranteed so that learning is not compromised and that none students, whatever their social or territorial origin, stay behind ”, said PSD deputy Luís Leite Ramos.
For the PSD, the Government needs to correct the lack of hiring professionals for the education system, the “non-resolution of computer problems”, but also “the non-resolution of the problem of risk teachers and their replacement”.
