Teachers' unions were called by the Ministry of Education for a preparation meeting for the next school year, 2020/2021. The meeting takes place this Thursday, June 25, by videoconference, and will be attended by the Assistant Secretary of State for Education, João Costa, and the Secretary of State for Education, Susana Amador.

In view of the scheduling of this meeting, Fenprof suspends action scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, 24, at the Ministry of Education, which was intended to demand the appointment of a meeting with the guardianship.

Júlia Azevedo, president of SIPE, anticipates that “on the table will certainly be the preparation for the next school year taking into account the conditions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which will motivate the discussion of measures that safeguard the safety of teachers and students in-person context, but also the adjustment and rectification of issues related to distance learning ”.

In view of this new reality, says the president of SIPE, it is essential that any decisions or changes that are introduced have the active participation of teachers, and that is what the unions intend to ensure at the meeting.

The leader also mentions that "other fundamental issues prior to the pandemic will not be forgotten, and will be the subject of discussion with the tutelage, for safeguarding the rights of teachers and the proper functioning of our education system".

It should be noted that the Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, announced this morning that the next academic year 2020/2021 will start between September 14th and 17th.
