The leader of JSD and deputy for the PSD, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, asked for the lifting of the voting discipline imposed on the social democratic bench in the matter of the end of fortnightly debates in Parliament. The deputy also made it known that, regardless of whether the deputies were given freedom of decision, their vote would be against the end of fortnightly debates.

In an email sent to the PSD parliamentary group to which Lusa had access, Margarida Balseiro Lopes the internal structure of the party and the lack of dialogue on the subject to be discussed this Thursday, the 23rd. “If it is true that in relation to I have no objection to the majority of the amendments made [to the AR charter], the same no longer applies to the specific matter at the end of the fortnightly debates ", read in the e-mail, in which the JSD leader asks" the survey of voting discipline in the vote on the end of fortnightly debates ”.

If the request for freedom to vote is not granted, Balseiro Lopes has already announced that he will vote against the proposal - and, therefore, against the party's nominations. “If this freedom of vote is not granted to us, I will not be able to follow the vote of the Parliamentary Group of the PSD. In that circumstance, I will have to vote according to my conscience and according to what - I am convinced of this - is the majority will of the people we represent ”.

Also the former leader of the orange youth, now deputy Pedro Rodrigues, had already shown to be against the proposal, a position that reinforced this Thursday morning to the microphones of Rádio Observador. “I do not see myself in the substance of this proposal or in the arguments that lead to its formation and I am very concerned with its results”, said Pedro Rodrigues, who said that he is still “awaiting a position from the direction of the parliamentary group in the sense of whether there are or not to vote discipline ”, despite being against it. The former leader of the 'jota' had already qualified the proposal, in an e-mail on Tuesday, as going “contrary to the tradition, heritage and identity of our party”, criticizing the lack of “internal debate in the group , a fundamental condition for determining the application of the voting discipline rule ”.

The Assembly of the Republic votes today, Thursday, an article that changes the model of parliamentary debates with the Government: instead of the current biweekly modality, these would become monthly, and in a month they would be with the Prime Minister on general policy and, in the following month, they would be about sectoral policy with the minister holding the portfolio.
